Course Overview

British Sign Language is one of the most valuable skills you can learn, and it’s growing in demand across the UK. Thousands of Deaf people use BSL every day, in schools, hospitals, workplaces and local communities, yet very few hearing people know how to sign back. This British Sign Language course, covering Level 1 and Level 2, helps close that gap and gives you the confidence to communicate clearly with Deaf people around you.

You’ll begin with the basics of British Sign Language, learning fingerspelling, the alphabet, greetings, family words, and simple questions. From there, you’ll build up your vocabulary around the home, colours, animals, numbers, money, time and weather, before moving on to everyday topics like transport, directions, hobbies, work and food. You’ll practise through real dialogues and short stories, first without sound or subtitles, then with support, so you truly test your understanding. Level 2 pushes further into describing people, school life, jobs, feelings, shopping, travel and health, giving you the tools to hold a proper conversation in British Sign Language.

This course is broken into short, easy-to-follow modules, so you can learn British Sign Language at your own pace, wherever you are. Whether you want to support a Deaf family member, work in education or care, or simply pick up a new skill, this British Sign Language course gives you practical, real-world ability. It’s CPD accredited, fully online, and comes with a free digital certificate once you finish.
